Michael Gomes was born and lives in Prince George, B.C. After pursuing a diploma in Criminology he changed his academic focus and completed degrees in History and Psychology from UNBC. During this time he began working with Aboriginal people, first through employment in group homes, then moving into gang prevention and youth empowerment. Understanding the value of education, he changed careers and is now in his sixth year working with the Aboriginal Education department of SD No. 57. He has worked directly with students as an AEW and has also served as coordinator for the Elders and Indigenous Knowledge program. He now focuses on policy and professional development as the department’s District Enhancement Officer.
