Sourdough for the classroom - from starter to rolls!

In this session you will learn the ins and outs of how to bring sourdough into your classroom - Michelle will go over and demonstrate all of the steps involved, along with providing lesson plans, recipes, links to useful videos, and tips on how to get your students interested and on board.

You will learn how to “catch" and feed a sourdough starter, how to tell when your starter is ready to begin making delicious bread, and then how to use your mature starter to make a simple classroom friendly roll. Michelle does this project with her Foods 10 classes and will walk you through each step, with helpful tips and tricks.

Bring a small reusable container (such as a mason jar), so you can bring some ready-to-use sourdough starter home with you.

    Michelle is a Foods teacher and the Home Economics Department Head at Semiahmoo Secondary. Along with her BSc in Foods Nutrition and Health, she has a diploma in Bakery and Pastry Arts from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts and spent 4 years working in the baking industry.
