Farm to School BC programs bring healthy, local and sustainable food into schools and provide students with hands-on learning opportunities that foster food literacy, all while strengthening the local food system and enhancing school and community connectedness.
Across the province, Farm to School BC works with many partners to fund Farm to School programs, and six regional Community Animators support the development and sustainability of these programs in classrooms, schools and school districts. All programs are unique and are developed based on the needs, resources and dreams of schools and their communities.
This workshop will focus on innovative fundraising models to start and sustain your Farm to School projects, including a step-by-step seedling sale fundraiser and showcasing a CSA-to-school fundraising model. Both fundraisers can involve students, and connect the local community to the school. As well, Marcus will highlight some grants and local funders.
The workshop will be lecture based, but will have some hands-on demonstrations. Printed materials will be provided to attendees
Marcus Lobb, the Farm to School BC Vancouver Island Regional Animator will host this workshop. Marcus has over 10 years of experience working with elementary and middle schools in Quebec and British Columbia. He has designed gardens, and garden-based curriculum, as well as cooking programs, with the goal of connecting local agriculture to the classroom and kitchen-classroom.
